Ocean Exploration Across The Caribbean
Illuminating the deep sea and unlocking the power of innovative, locally-led, and collaborative ocean exploration throughout the Caribbean.

About Marmoris
Marmoris is a non-profit organization that advances deep-sea research and strengthens local ownership of ocean exploration throughout the Caribbean. Based in The Bahamas, we lead a variety of ocean exploration initiatives using advanced technologies to reveal life in the ocean’s most remote and unexplored depths. We collaborate with scientists, governments, and communities throughout the Caribbean to enhance regional data collection, inform conservation strategies, and build lasting capacity for deep ocean science.
What We Do
Marmoris deploys a suite of advanced and accessible ocean technologies to explore depths of up to 3,000 meters. We conduct comprehensive surveys of ocean ecosystems, from surface to seafloor, collecting video and sensor data used to document marine habitats and biodiversity, fill critical data gaps, and monitor changes over time.

Why This Matters
Research and Exploration
Only 0.001% of the ocean has been visually explored, meaning we know more about outer space than the deep sea. Yet, what happens deep below the surface has profound impacts on life above it: from our climate to our fisheries. Greater ocean exploration is essential to close critical knowledge gaps and safeguard this vital marine ecosystem against human impacts like oil drilling and deep-sea mining.
Capacity across the Caribbean
Limited access to ocean technologies, especially in small island developing states, hinders data collection from marine ecosystems. Further, capacity for research beyond diver depth remains scarce. Building regional capacity for ocean exploration is essential to increase data availability and strengthen local leadership in marine science.
Our Impact
By deploying cutting-edge technologies and collecting actionable data, Marmoris is advancing ocean exploration and strengthening regional research capacity. Our international expertise, combined with a deep understanding of the cultural and economic importance of marine ecosystems to the Caribbean, uniquely positions us to drive impactful, locally grounded ocean science that supports conservation, sustainable development, and informed decision-making across the region.
